Superb post! I would add Tate and Lyle's Golden Syrup. Even the most blasé of French gastronomes are knocked out by this.

This is a great list. If it's a London trip I'd swap Waterstones for Daunt Books or an independent bookshop in any other town. If it's a northern trip it has to be Barter Books in Alnwick!

This is a great list. Because I live in Brixton, I always bring Brixton-y things like Market Row gin, Brixton Rum and totebags, coasters (beer mats) and fridge magnets with Brixton market insignia. I'm also quite partial to tee shirts and glasses from Brixton Brewery.

Local breweries is actually a great one! We get the Beavertown beers and merch for friends / family too!

Betty's tea for special or M&S gold

Duchy Organics oaten biscuits

Hovis cheese biscuits

Crumpets and pikelets

Bagels

I also find myself looking at all the more exotic spices and condiments that are so much easier to find in the UK.

We have weaned ourselves off breakfast cereal but this is so much cheaper in the UK and we used to stock up!

For children - shoes (no VAT) and nappies were much cheaper.

I travelled to the UK last in 2023 and I JUST finished my boxes of Whittard English breakfast tea. Missing her greatly

You can find bad coffee everywhere (and will, if you don’t know where to look for the good stuff)
